What I've been doing with my time (56k lol)
I decided last week that I'm over my "stickers on everything" phase (I've been over it for a while, but until now I've been too lazy to do anything). Well, one of the things I stickered up was my electric guitar (38 stickers to be exact lol). Anyway, I decided to strip it down and give her a new color. Personally, I think it looks like a factory color scheme, so I'm extremely pleased with it.
Now, to the pics!

This was after about half the stickers were removed... yeah, it was bad.

No more stickers

Yeah, I even had some on the back

Then I sanded everything down (and taped off the pickups/humbucker/switches/wiring)

A little bit of auto body filler to fill in the gouges in the finish (funny story, the large chunk missing above the pickguard (the large hunk of bondo) was actually done when I dropped a katana on the guitar... don't ask lol)

The chips on the back are filled

After sanding, ready to primer

The same with the back

After the first layer of primer

This was after the second layer of primer (yes, I'm aware the first shot was of the front and this is the back)

After sanding... the first layer of color (metallic red). I'd have taken more pics of the paint progress, but honestly, they all look the same

The pickguard, back plate, *****, and (not shown) pickup selector thing were all painted
AAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDD.....
Then I put her all back together
(with new D'Addario x-super light strings)

I'm extremely happy with how everything came out... the super-flat black pickguard really makes the red paint pop. It really gives the guitar a more mature, refined look... which is good, because I barely ever play punk rock anymore

Good job it looks about 100x better. I wish I would learn to play but I don't have the paitence... I have a fender squire sitting in the corner of my room that is pretty much just for looks now. lol
nice!!
And here I thought you had a dead guitar and that you were converting it into a guitar hero guitar with the shell of a REAL guitar. I plan on doing that once I get my hands on a dead guitar.

thanks everyone
And for the whole guitar hero thing, it's not a bad idea, but I'm not a huge fan of GH (actually, I've never played it)... I just figure learning to play the songs in the games on a real guitar is probably more fun than playing the game (not to mention, then you can p**s off your friends by playing the song in the background while they're trying to play the game
).
And the jaguar's a nice, classic guitar, but for the price I'd rather have an SG (I've always been a Gibson fan)... but I'd still rather have a '59 Les Paul Standard (if only I had $5500
). Until I find myself with an extra few grand sitting around, I guess I'll stick to playing my cheap little Ibanez on my 100w Fender combo amp
*edit: btw, dan, craigslist is your friend.... I'm sure you can pick up an old POS electric for like $50 bucks tops on CL.

lol, yeah, but I have little ambition to do it as I don't like the game either. lol, I just want to do it. I know what you mean about enjoying playing the same song in the background. I actually have a Gibson Epiphone Acoustic and, my baby, a Gibson SG VooDoo (electric).
Looks nice man, I really like that color. Do you have any high res pics of it?
I've been wanting to give my Ibanez a killer new look fora long time, but I'm all lazy and junk...
