Could someone mabey give me a simple definition of intake, headers, and exhaust? Im clueless, really...

 

intake feeds your motor the air supply
header lets the air out (after market allows more air capacity)
and exhaust allows the release of the air from the car itself

Headers can't be used with turbos right? (Off topic, sorry)

 

So why does the engine even need air in the first place?

They all work together to get air into, and out of the car?

 

Cause you need air for combustion...that's why when you smother a fire it goes out...

 

The engine needs air in order to run the easyest way to explain for me anyway is for in your case a N/A car, the easyer the air can flow for example try sucking through a mcdonalds straw or somthing then suck through a 3 inch pipe of course the 3 inch pipe is easyer to suck through because its alot more flow and bigger.So the easyer and colder the the air that your intake can suck in the better.The reason that you want cold is because the colder the air the more air molecuels can be put into the cylenders hot air expands so not as many air molecues can be sucked into the cylenders while the colder the air gets more compacted molecules which alows your cylenders to suck in a larger capacity of air. now correct me if im wrong plz or plz dont flame me because i know that i am new to the forums and im not an expert as you can tell


so any way thats basicly the intake side of things so more air needs more fuel to have a proper combustion the more air the more fuel =more powerful combustion more powerful combustion =more hp. After the combustion the burnt gas fumes get pushed out the easyer it is for the fumes to be pushed out the better thats when the header and exhaust comes into things upgraded or aftermarket header and exhaust increse the flow of the exhaust fumes being pushed out of your engine so same thing as the straw and 3inch pipe example stock exhausts are smaller and have kinks in bends and all kinda of things the give the fumes a harder time flowin out easyly so aftermarker exhaust normaly has a bigger circumfrience and also its good to get mandrel bent pipe because then there is no kinks in bends so over all just better flow.also u want your exhaust to be hot unlike the intake that u want to have as cold air as possible being sucked in the exhaust side you want to have as hot as possible because that also lets the fumes flow out easyer. hope i helped alot or a little and im so sorry about the spelling i was never good in language arts proly never will be.

like what do you mean i think that you sould take more time and learn how engines work then itl be alot easyer to understand.
