Everytime I step out of my civic (99 DX) and touch any part of the door, I get a schock....what gives?

Anytime it is dry out you will suffer the static shocks. If you grab hold of the door or door jam (metal ground) as you slide across the seat you should eliminate the problem.

what about those dangley bits of rubber that hang down from the back bumper you can get, im probably mistaken, but arnt these to prevent these static shocks??? maybe you could hid one under the car right in the middle out of sight

Yoda is right. Grab the door before you get out.....

my94civic: those straps are used to groundtanker trucksso that gas does not explode whenthey load/unload gas at a terminal. I don't think they will work for seat rash. However, maybe if you tossa chain on the ground, holding on to one end as you climb out that might solve the problem also. For those of you who paid attention in school, you might remember the silk cloth rubbing the plastic rod experiment. The same thing is happening here.

This was really bad with my old '03 WRX, not with the Civic so far. I had it down to a science where I would tap the door with my elbow, and it never bothered me.
