Default Swapped a D15Z4 for a D15B

Hi...

I had some engine problems with my 1998 civic... There was water leaking into the engine and the engine would stall/stop when I'm driving. My mechanic advised me to change the engine for a newer engine. So, I told him go ahead.

When I looked at the engine, the next day, I noticed that it looked dirtier/older than the one I had previously. However, the engine noise was smoother.

However, he told me that the new ECU would not fit in my car, so he used the old ECU. When I first tried the engine, it would not idle correctly. But then he did some tweaking to the ECU and now it seems to be fine. But still the idle seems to be a little too "high" and the acceleration is a bit funny. I can live with those two minor changes, but I'm afraid I might run into more serious problems in the future. Should I be?

Also, how do I find out what year the engine was made? I know the range for D15B, but what year exactly?

The new engine number is D15B-3506350

Thanks

Any pics of engine? And what does it read on the block?

1. Look at your engine, specifically here. There's a code there... some numbers and letters.

2. Go here and look it up.

I don't have any pics at the moment. I read the engine number on the block as follows:

D15B 3506350

According to the list, the engine could be anywhere from 1992 to 2000. Isn't there a way to find out what year exactly?

No there's no VTEC on it. I'll try to take a pic tomorrow.

Post a picture of the harness ports on the ECU that came with the new engine

You can use the ECU, you just need what is called a "conversion harness". To tell you which conversion harness you need, I need to know what OBD the ECU is. We can find this out by you posting a picture of the electrical connector ports on it.

It's alright now.. The numbers 99 were etched on the motor, so it's a 1999. It's running fine now, the mechanic fixed it.

I believe it is working now with the ECU that came with the motor. But I have no idea what the mechanic did to make it work. He fixed it in about 10-15 minutes. If I get a chance I might post a pic. It cost me a total of 360 Jordanian dinars for the whole process. That's about $500. The motor was imported recently from Japan to Jordan.
