Chains never have to replaced. Timing belts should be replaced every 60,000 miles.

I dunno. But if you plan on doing any work on your car, get the factory service manual. I'm not sure how much they run, but i would imagine its under $100 and if you do your own work its worth it. The service manual will tell you how to change anything on the car and you will be able to see if it has a chain or belt. I'm leaning towards belt b/c the Civic is an entry level car and using chains is alot more expensive b/c the chain has to have a lubrication system and the chains are more expensive to produce. I know that the S2000 uses a chain.

'06s have chains now. They never need replacing.
