Used EG?

Used EG?
Just down the street from my house is a used EG hatch and to me it seems fairly cheap (especially since its the only one for sale in my city). I want to know if you guys think it would be worth to spend $1500 - $2000 on this car. It's pretty abused, the paint on the hood and front fenders has been stripped, and theres a black soot-ish stuff on the rear end, im assuming the exhaust blew up on him or something. I would really just buy the car as a project for a few years but is $2000 too much? I have no idea....
There are more bolt ons on the car, lights, guages, probably turbo, etc...

Well, how many miles is on the car? How's the car structurally? Does it run well or does it have a few gremlins?
Personally, given that it's an EG and probably has quite a few miles on the clock, I'd offer $1,000 and be willing to go up to maybe $1,500-$2,000 depending on the condition. Pictures would help with coming up with a value.
Also, the black soot (if on the rear bumper) would be from the car running under a rich condition, and is fairly normal.

the black soot could always be because they also removed the cat converter also... my old 94 was black soot all over the rear bumper from the missing cat and the tip was not far enough out the back.
but either way be sure to fully inspect the car... like when the car is still cold.... check the radiator for heat before he ever starts it up... and make sure the fluid doesnt have any oil in the radiator... also check the oil for any radiator fluid on the dip stick also... and like always drive the car. listen to it run and try everything to ensure it all works. like ac/ heat cruise control, wipers, turn signals... blablabla. and inspect for any damaged areas like obvious repairs from any wrecks.
i sold my old 94 civic coupe EX for 3,500bucks BUT i had EXTENSIVE recites and pictures of my rebuild i was going to the car!!!! so i could prove all the work i had done to it and it ran great. honesty can go along way when selling a vehicle for a seler but MOST try to hide problems to get a quick buck! which is why you the BUYER must inspect everything... you can also get a carfax report for the vehicle to see if it has any wrecks reported to it also. but not every wreck will even show on a carfax.... since not every wreck is reported.

If its turbo'd, definitely have a shop check it out.....who knows who did the turbo and if they did it right....but all in all, 800 would be a good IMO.
Looks like it could have been in a wreck too....but don't quote me on that.
And what happened to the passenger side mirror?

I also am willing to bet that it was lowered with generic eBay springs or coilovers on stock shocks with no alignment.
And haha, CX's look so funny with their passenger mirror blockoff plates.
