4000 rpm's, and you cantell by the sound. Itstartsat a low grrr (befor 4000 rpms)to a high whine. You can push all the way up to redline (usually 7000 rpm's) and feel a lot more power. But I would recommend notpushing ittoo much over 6000 unless your car is tuned for it.
V-tec is basically developed by Honda/acura for cars to get good mpg, and also have some extra power at the mid-top end.

RE: vtec???
i dont get it, it kicks in roughly at 5500 rpms. these 4 cylinder motors are not race car motors so what is good about revving the motor up that high? my maunal says to shift at 3k for best fuel economy.
and a vtec in an automatic? i see no reason to rev an auto up that high also.
i love honda, maybe i am confused.........

best fuel economy and desire to go fast don't really go hand in hand...
vtec is in any EX model (beyond 5th gen? 4th gen?), as well as any Si, or DOHC model
