Default vtec/non vtec

I have a 89 civic 1.5 with 300k mileage it is tired and it has started to blow some smoke out of its ***, I can go thru a place where I can get a replacement motor from japan rebult delivered to my house.for less than 500 with a year guarantied.
For the same amount I found a low mileage 1.6 vtec out of a auto that was crashed he will give me motor mounts ecu wire harness etc.
Can anyone give me feedback on pros and cons I do not race it is just a family car. It has been a good car and I want to keep it and would like it running good.you can reply here or email me at mpc_@live .com

if its just a family car then go with which ever engine you trust more and the japan motor has a year warantee... and probably has lower miles than the vtec engine i'd say go with it. also your 89 civic probably has dual point intake manifold and putting a vtec engine wouldnt do much of a difference without converting to mpfi. to hook up the vtec engine and ecu you would need some rewiring.. if you want more power go for the vtec engine i can give you a diagram on how to rewire the car. and also get a complete mpfi intake manifold (fuel rail, injectors), distributor, resistor box, extra wires, vtec engine wire harness, extra ecu pins. and the d15 engine you could just bolt up...

If I only planned on driving it and didn't want a lot of extra work, I would go with the $500 warranteed non-vtec motor....my last one made it 238,000 very, very hard miles......
