for AT people, do you keep holding the brakes? or do you put it in neutral or park? would either one of them hurt your car (eg. not letting the car go if you hold the brakes cuz automatic rolls if you have it in drive?)

 

um, i don't have an auto, but you're supposed to press the brake to disengage the clutch. if you keep switching into park, then your tranny will go a little quicker, but not a big deal.

 

even if you have manual, your supposed to keep your foot on the brake.(in case the car rolls or in case someone hits you from behind)

 

in the work truck the only auto i drive everyone in my family has stick shift i just keep my foot on the brake

 

If you are sat at the lights with your foot on the brake and someone hits you from behind expect substantially more damage to yourself,in a stick shift use the hand brake and i guess in an auto use the park function.

 

I usualy sit with the car in gear, foot on the clutch and foot on the break. If the queue is long then it's neutral and handbrake.

 

automatic = neutral + hand brake
manual = neutral + hand brake

problem solved (and I've read that putting an auto in neutral at long stops (if you catch the light as it's turning red) it helps the transmission cool down)

 

is it bad to roll in neutral>MT?

 

My car's handbrake doesn't do jack, I can drive with it up and not feel anything

 

Um, then get it adjusted!
