Default What works for rodents in the engine compartment?

My mechanic replaced a hose connected to my washer fluid tank and cleaned out some nesting materials, acorn shells, etc. I caught it relatively early and the damage this time was <$100 but I really need to get this under control before they cause a lot more damage. We don't have a garage and we have woods nearby. I can't park the car anywhere else.

My car guy suggested moth ***** in ziploc bags. I ordered some moth ***** & in the meantime put some peppermint cotton ***** in ziploc bags. I also installed an ultrasonic repellent with strobe lights.

My question is what do folks find actually works? I'm just going by an act of faith that one or more of these techniques will work. I'm told some of the insulation and hose materials in newer cars are actually made with soy or other edible materials.

What works & will I be accountable for damage caused by rodents during the lease, if anyone knows? Freaking out a bit since I don't know what more I can do about it. I drive the car a few times a week & I love it, but this is making me nervous!

Thanks!

If there's a better forum for this, please point me to it. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue.

Thanks!
