I need to sell my vehicle, which I have listed currently on the forums, but I'm considering parting it out instead. Is it ridiculous to ask 2500 for a 98 Civic EX which a possible blown head gasket? Everything else on the vehicle is still in more than reasonable condition.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother looking at a car with a blown head gasket for $2500, but that's just me... I'm sure someone out there would take it, it's just a matter of time.

If you can afford to sit on the car (as in you don't need the money this instant), parting out a car is always the way to go.

I'd just figure that you could easily get 2500$ out of a vehicle if you parted it out, especially if it isn't crashed. So you're basically saying that if I intend on getting the full 2500$ then I'll have to find a person who is just desperate enough to have all EK parts?

Well what I'm saying is post it on forums that you're doing a complete partout... also, posting an ad on the local craigslist isn't a bad idea either. Really, you'll always get more money doing a full partout as opposed to outright selling a car. I mean, the rolling chassis alone could probably go for ~$500 if there's no rust.

Blown head gasket?! Pfft! Fix it for less than $500, then sell it for $5000.

I only paid $800 for mine with a blown head gasket and warped head because I liked the guy I bought it from - and the rest of the car was in decent shape... probably not nearly as nice as yours. The salvage yard would've only given him $250.

Hey, you wouldn't pay $1000 for a 60" plasma TV that didn't work, would you? Same thing - if a car don't run, you can't expect good money for it.

Ya why do you NEED to sell it? Fix it like a man.

Well, considering the extensive problem (which appears to be more than the head gasket), I would expect that the repairs would not be nearly as cheap as it would to outright sell the vehicle. However, I am still considering parting it out.

Before you decide to part out a vehicle, be sure to think of how you're going to get rid of the shell after everything on it is sold depending on if you sell the suspension components.
