stock ones BETER....... less HP

aftermarket ones are mostly test pipes with alittle resonator or something in them.... they just LOOK like stock style converters...

If you have to pass emissions regularly, be careful if you buy a cheapo cat because they are cheap for a reason. They either god bad or simply aren't actually a cat.

High performance, legitimate Catalytic Converters just don't clean up the exhaust as well as stock. they flow better because they use less materials. Some like Magnaflow, claim to be CARB certified, which means they can pass emissions just be careful of other mods that can have a huge impact on emissions as well, because you will not pass. they are a great trade-off of environmentally friendly and performacne friendly, unlike the stock cat or no cat. which are at the opposite ends of spectrum.

I have the cheap one on mine. They don’t test emission around so I did not need to get the good stuff but still doing my part to help with the environment.

AS what I know Magnflow's are EPA and CARB approved. I live in California and this is one of the toughest states for emission tests. It just depends which Magnaflow cat youBUY some of them are not CARB or OBDII compliant. Both of my Honda's have Magnaflow cats and NO problems with emission

94 Accord Ex ****CARB approved High flow cat by Magnaflow
00 Civic Si****** OBDII and CARB Compliant High Flow cat by Magnaflow

Im just worried about getting one because I need to pass smog and I need a net cat. Once I pass I will use a test pipe.

Oh I knowsome Magnaflow Cats are CARB and EPA certified to work effectively, but due to them being High flow, they are not as effective as a stock cat at cleaning up the exhaust stream. this may not be enough to fail an emmisions test on an otherwise stock car, but with other mods that actually do increase emmisions, the cat may not be enough to save you come testing time.

I'm not saying they will not work, they just don't clean like the stock cats do, so be careful. thats all.
