rigged wiring anything that doesnt look right, also unhook the cluster completly and put a fuse in and see if it blows,

did you get the car like this?
because if so then they rigged something because the dash lights and tail lights run on the same fuse, its done like that for a reason so you will know that you have to tail lights.

Wait... what's burning out? The fuses? The bulbs?

Or does it just stop working randomly and nothing is really "burning out"?

hmm well then you've got a short somewhere. Look behind the cluster and under the dash for wiring that has been tampered with. Look at the wiring behind the dimmer switch too.

when i bought the car, it was fine. i bought it off a guy in his 30s completely stock. it jsut randomly went out, i was under the impression that it shorted out. i dont think its the bulbs because the cluster and the lights by the shifter both went out at the same time. now i know that the ******* who installed my stereo left live power wires open in my engine bay which is bad lol. so i was kinda leaning on it being from that. i was just gonna ignore it cause i want to get a new car come spring anyhow. this was my first car so its kinda beat. i want another 6th gen hatch or a 7th gen hatch but those are rare around here.

Well if it's not fuses blowing then it's probably the dimmer switch

Unplug the dimmer switch and then jump its wire harness with a paper clip or a small piece of wire (there's only two pins on the wire harness). Turn your lights on like normal and if they light up while jumped then your dimmer switch must be bad.
