wouldnt paint get on the sides of the letters since there poked out? or do you just sand paper / polish the top

just paint it then just sand down the top of the letters
i used 400 grit to sand paint off then 800 to polish it

my valve cover doesn't have paint so i'd sand it 1st correct?

i took mine off removed all the seals out of it, sanded the rough loose stuff off, then washed it, let it dry, then primed 3 coats, painted 5 very light coats, then 2 coats clear. then i let it sit out in the sun for about 3 hrs then very carefully put all my seals back on it then istalled it on my motor, then about 4 days later i sanded the letters and then washed it off with water.

just a heads up im, in the process of relocating my battery and im doing more of my wire tuck, so far its looking pretty good, my engine bay looks like its missing something there is just so much extra room. ill post up pics for ya real soon, just gotta finish up a little more.

ok well, my alternator went bad , it needed to come out so i can replace it, only 1 problem it wouldnt come out easy, i had to take my intake manifold off to get it out, there wasnt any room to get it out any other way,
