Default "super" short ram intake?

I just had a thought on a cool intake design, although it could be stupid in the end. would it be good or bad to instead of having a intake pipe and then a filter, to just put a filter on the end of the IM? I was wondering about this because normal short rams dont take in much cold air since they are next to all the exhaust heat. would this setup have less heat since it is further away from the exhaust, or is putting the filter anywhere in the engine bay going to create heat?

It wouldn't do squat. it would just take in real warm air cause it is right behind the block... people have done it 1000 times before

no because eitehr way you wont be getting any cold air, which makes it pointless

^ DING DING... just get an SRI at least then you will have SOME cool air going in the intake while driving.

i knew it wouldn't perform good. only 'logic' behind it was that it would SUPER cheap.

to be honest, cold air intakse arent that great either, by the time the air gets to the motor, it has warmed back up. That is why there hasnt been a difference (if at all) between CAI & SRI

this senario is similar to just not having an intake at all and leaving the throttle body exposed...

it just doesn't work well
