Default 4-2-1 vs 4-1 header

What is the difference in those header choices, I see them on the web sites but I don't quite understand what the pro's and con's of each are? Or just what the difference is. I tried searching this site but couldn't really find much.

4-2-1 = A two-piece header. The first piece goes from 4 tubes to 2; the second from 2 to 1.
-better low end power
-better ground clearance

4-1 - A one-piece header. It goes from 4 tubes straight into 1 tube.
-better mid-range and top-end power
-less expensive?

in theory 4-2-1 are easier to install becasue they are usually a two piece header that you can bolt togehter in the middle, meaning you can attach one piece to the block, the other to the mid-pipe, and then bolt them together in the engine bay, but i installed mine as one piece (like a 4-1) and it was really easy.

Reaper has the 4-2-1 mid-range power and the 4-1 top end power right, kinda like a SRI vs. CAI

dont really know about the price though, but Reaper could very well be right lol

Dude come on, don't say if you don't know. THat is just plain WRONG! you got the part about mid range and top end power but lets clear some things up.

a 4-2-1 header means that the4 merge into 2 and then into 1. They are generally better for a broader powerband.

a 4-1 header means that the 4 merge straight into one. They are generally better for top end, (not really mid).

the fact of being two piece are one piece is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MATTER. You can have a 1 or 2 piece 4-2-1 header just like you can have a 1 or 2 piece 4-1 header. A two piece is generally easier to install and fit in there, but some say that the 1 piece flow better because of no flange disrupting flow.

and i can't really see the other ones theyre kinda small but some of them don't look right either

Yes i'm positive. He said that 4-2-1 were two piece and that 4-1 were one piece. This is not true, each one can be TWO PIECE OR ONE PIECE

I meant to say that they were usually 2-piece or 1-piece, respectively. Either way, what does it matter how many pieces a header is? Everybody I've talked to agrees that it's easiest to just bolt a 2-piece together before installing it anyway.

Also, for the record, I was quoting an issue of Super Street (Super Street, October 2005, page 136) on the power ranges. If you don't think a 4-1 is better for mid-range, take it up with Roel at Super Street, who wrote the buyer's guide.

And 03, I appreciate the support, but he has the pictures right.

4 into 2 into 1 headers are better for street purposes....

4 into 1 headers are better for racing, cuz of the high end power..

right??
