Default brand name worth it??

i have a cold air intake on my 98 ex coupe that i got from ebay for around $40a while ago
i was thinking about the aem v2 for my car but my friend says that it shouldnt be that much of a difference
so im wondering if getting the v2 for 300 bucks would be a worthy thing to do
same thing with headers
should i get DC or Greddy or will the ebay ones do fine
me and another buddy are planning to do k20 swaps on our cars and he says not to put in a lot of money into this engine but i need to know if the expensive stuff will give me what i pay for
thanks

not really i'd listen to your friend why spend money on that engine if its coming out and a k series is going in? if anything the ebay piping for the intake is good just get a better filter

bolt on's shouldn't get you any noticeable gains. i would wait till you do the engine swap first. your ebay cai with a name brand filter would be just as good as the V2 and for the header people seem to like the Megan Racing ones good on price and is quality stuff

Eh, not the V2.

Any other intake though, yes.

For header (you only have one), you want a name brand.

I'd argue the header point, stu. Ben had an ebay header for years with no problem with the welds breaking. As far as flow, an ebay piece will flow as well as a Hedman, Megan Racing, or DC; they're all either 4-1 or 4-2-1 with roughly the same size primaries and collector. Obviously an ebay header won't flow as well as an equal-length piece like a Bisimoto, but if that's the kind you're looking for, ebay won't even cross your mind.

Granted, with ebay you do take a big risk on quality. Honestly, I'd just wait for the k20 to go in. Why spend money on an engine you're getting rid of when the parts won't transfer over to the new one?

It's the same argument as the eBay short throw shifter argument. Some break, some don't.

My car had a brand new ebay header on it when I got it. 2 months later 3 or the 4 welds were completely shot. But to the point, just wait for the K swap.
