Default CAI away from engine

So i've heard that a CAI end can be put in the bumper, so its well away from the hot air of the engine? this true? if so, is it necessary to do this or is a regular CAI from AEM just fine?

I have an AEM, and mine goes all the way down to the bumper. Its a little better in that it does get cooler air coming up under the car, rather than the hot air just sitting on top

Any "regular" CAI is going to draw air from outside the engine compartment. If it doesn't I don't think it could be classified as a "cold air" intake.
