I have a custom exhaust system...i was wondering if i gut, or run a straight pipe where my cat is i know it will be louder..but will it be a good loud or a crappy sounding loud? i also heard it frees up some HP, i was going to run a straight pipe from my header to my 4.5" muffler...but i didnt know if it would sound good...anyone done this?

Defintiely not a good sounding exhaust without the cat, and I dont think the annoying sound is worth the little horsepower youll gain.

DON'T DO IT!!! Not worth it. Just get a hi-flow cat. You won't be able to stand the noise...and that's all it'll be...NOISE. I gotta agree w/Ballard: not worth it for the minimal HP gains.

How about if you turbo it will it still be loud like a bumble bee? I heard that removing a cat from a turbo car will free up a lot of hp up to 20.

i know in pa its illegal to remove anything like that..and they are talking about making it illegal other places also... sorry but when i had my escort..all i did was threw on the muffler after cutting off the old one..
i had..3 step downs to get to the stock pipe... but my muffler never leaked once..and survived my accident..and 2 weeks after when i was still struggling to get it off with a fractured wrist...dang that jb weld holding it on there... it sounded like i had a performance exhaust hooked in cause it wasnt ricer farts..it was deeper.. but.. i was in the process of welding my own 3 inch exhaust..i just sold it to someone i put high flow cat in... it was a dualy

Honestly, I don't know 'bout that. I has to go through all that extra piping...But TC'd cars sound about as loud as they did w/o being TC'd. Anyway, if he's got a custom exhaust he should just need performance headers and a hi-flow cat and he would be better off than losing the cat completely. Doesn't need the hassle of how loud it's gonna be...And the possibility of a ticket for messin' w/the cat or even from noise pollution.
