If you're looking to get him a name brand intake, AEM and INJEN are real good names. This is open to opinion, but the AEM V2 is the "best" cold air intake you can get. But it's expensive.

Go to www.AEMpower.com and enter in the vehicle info: 2004, Honda, Civic LX, engine (pick the correct one!).

You can get an idea about what the products are on that site. You can find the same products on eBay.

Also, if you don't want to go the name brand route, the generic Cold Air Intakes that are sold on eBay are nice as well, I have one

if you have to chose what engine you have at AEM's website, it's the D17A1

when it comes down to it, an intake is just a tube, the outcome is about the same with any brand, only the better brands are more likely to fit without refabricatio. the most important part is the air filter, k&n make a killer high flow air filter

whatever, dog k&n, they are expensive but they have reason for doing so, all they make is filter and induction systems, thats it! they spend all their efforts on 1 thing. but yes apexi is good also
