Default exhaust question

i have received my headers, muffler, and 02 extention wire last week for my d16y7. now i cant wait to put them on. however, the header that i puchased came with a test pipe, which i thought was another name for cat. it is just a pipe with nothing in it! what the hell is a test pipe for?lol it seems to me it is a waste. since i wasted my money already, i am gonna get a 02 cel eliminator. i was told that it will turn off the cel. how true is this?

I believe the name "test pipe" came from replacing a catalytic converter with a plain pipe to see if performance problems were caused by a plugged up cat. If the car ran well with the test pipe, the owner knew the cat was at fault. I'm not sure about the cel.

get a real cat
you're unnecessarily killing the earth if you just ignore it and get a o2 simulator.

You can get a nice Magnaflow Direct-fit cat on summitracing.com for like $150 (it's high-flow, even though it doesn't say so)

First of all, what brand header did you get?

Hahah so true. Arent test pipes also illegal because they void emmissions? It like say for off road use onley or track use only.

they don't void emissions they just take out any air cleaner the car has and directly deposits all the harmful gases into the atmosphere.

incorrect. tests pipes are not street legal in any US state, and i don't think they're legal in canada either
they definitely void emissions... the whole point of the emissions test is to make sure your catalytic converter is doing its job and/or the engine isn't overpowering the cat with too many harmful gases that causes the cat not to fully do its job.

so the piping is 2" in diameter right? Thats not big. Usually the cat back systems have 2.5" diameters.
