what exactly does the headers do for your car?
i have a 93 civic 5 spd, stock engine 1.6 liter, does it make sense putting in I/H/E or should i be looking for a better engine first. my friends keep tellin me to get an intake cuz it gives more hp. is that true?
new to this. only thing i really know about is audio systems.

Well, your *header connects the exhaust from your engine. They dont do much for extra power.

BUT the i/h/e system WILL give you much better airflow from start to finish...bottom line

If you're looking for speed dump the sedan.

headers do do quite a bit for performance. What matters is doing all of them because the work with each other. If you get just a header it wont do much, but if you already have an intake and exhaust it will do quite a bit. Likewise, if you did the exhaust last it would do quite a bit because its the last thing you're changing and it augments the help of the others. Wheverever is bottlenecking is where you'll see the biggest performance gain.
