Ghetto action plan on 96 LX
Ok...I have a nice mushroom filter that I want to use. I know I will turbo the car in the long run, so for now I want to do this: Cut a hole in the hood, mold a scoop over it, and extend the filter above the hoodline. Now the car is fugly as is, so it will not break it's "good" looks. I have paint peeling badly from it and it is in need of a paint job desparately.

Actually here's the whole thing: There will be a "cup" with a drainhose surrounding the filter under the hood, the scoop itself will provide for drainage on the sides of it, rather than pushing rain water into the filter opening. The whole idea is to get the coldest air in, right? Well with the engine isolated from the filter by the "cup" and LX's TB pointing straight up...well I thought why not simply stick that filter on a short piece of pipe straight through the hood...

that actually a pretty good idea, or you dont even need to pop the cone on the hood, just keep it under the hood to the TB with or without a short pipe, then just do the hood scoop with the opening right over the filter, that would cool the engine pretty good too..just have a filter thing where the hole is so no crap goes inside the bay, but its still good air flow

ps guys this would be what is known as a ram air intake...an EFFECTIVE ram air intake...as in...a ram air intake that actually works like a ram air intake....instead of a short pipe with a filter on it contained in the engine bay that we have come to know as ram air.
