Header
my guess would be that he didn't have a cat. I'm assuming the header you ordered would be more or less a civic ex header. Get an ex cat and an ex cat-back exhaust and everything should bolt right up in the factory locations, and you won't have any CEL problems; you'll probably need to extend the secondary o2 sensor wire to reach the new location though. Password:JDM sells the extension kit for like $25; you don't need it (just manually extending the factory wiring will also work), but it makes things a little bit easier.

Stop making double posts...
anyways your friend had three cats? lol. Well his problem would be that he didnt plug in the o2 sensors. And again like everyone on here has said to you before, if you dont have a lot of money to spend then you shouldnt mod your car. A quality exhaust is going to cost you around $500 bucks unless you get a cheap ebay one or something

Don't install the header until you can get a cat on there...
There is no other solution to your problem. Either buy an EX cat and EX exhaust now, or buy them later and wait until then to install the header.]
There is nothing we can do besides tell you this, so stop making excuses and acting like we're going to give you some magic answer to your problem that is free and simple.
You have 3 options:
1. do it right
2. don't do it all
3. fu(k up your car

About the double posts, he's talking about how you posted, then 5 minutes later you posted again when you quoted me.
Anyway, learn from my mistakes... just save up the money until you can do the mods right; I had to go back and re-do quite a bit on my old civic because I was too impatient/cheap to do it right the first time. The EX header might line up with your stock exhaust, in which case you could use an o2 simulator to keep from getting a CEL. Either way, I'd still aim towards the ex exhaust conversion.
And an ECU is the Electronic Control Unit, also known as ECM (Electronic Control Module); it's basically the computer that controls your car's functions (fuel, ignition, etc)
*edit: and I do know how you feel. I had to wait over a month while my 'stang's dual exhaust sat in my garage before I could finally put it on due to me waiting to get all the parts I needed... in the end, well worth it
