Default Header ?s

First, what does a header do? (layman's terms, please... talk to me like i have an extra chromosome)

Second, what does a 94 dx need? i see different shapes, like 4-2-1 and other such nonsense... Clay? aluminum?

Third, will this increase hp? i just installed a cai, how does that affect it? like, do i need same diameter piping or anything?

1. a header lets more exhaust gas out than a stock manifold =more hp. 2. a 4-2-1 is a popular header i would go with a stainless steel one 3. it will help with hp but your stock exhaust is restrictive that means less exhaust gas is coming out you need a new exhaust system to take advantage of the header. hope this helps. try www.dcsports.com they have great headers

the header is basically a more efficeien manifold, and gets the exhaust out with less restriction. the 4-1 and 4-2-1 headers are different in that you can get a broader powerband with a 4-2-1 and more top end with a 4-1. 4-1 tend to be a bit harder to install because of space. the stainless steel is more expensive and doesn't rust like plain steel, and ceramic coatings are more for looks and keeping the heat down. and a header will give you a pretty good increase in power if it is well desinged.

pllus the header holes are bigger than stock... its like hypertheticaly speeking blowing through a coffee straw and then blowing through a mcdonalds super size straw... its way easier and takes less work...

A header is an exhaust manifold or a set of pipes that direct exhaust gases away from the engine.

4-2-1 header is the only thing I've seen available for the 94 Civic DX. You could get a 4-1 custom made. Kind of overkill.

You will get more HP at the top-end of the RPM range. However, HP gain is minimal, 0-5 HP. You will want to get a header that is made for your make and model car. What is important is that the header, which is not bendable, bolts to the cylinder head, which is attached to the engine, and to the catalytic converter properly.

i've replaced my stock exhaust already. so cool beans. maybe i ought to go bigger tho now if i have all this nice air flow?

also i have seen on ebay and here in the forums some combo: header, catback and exhaust that you can buy all at once for a low price.
