Default Honda civic 95 ex coupe muffler/exhaust question please

Hey I got a 95 civic ex coupe. I wanted to get a new muffler since my old muffler was getting really rusted and dirty. I figured this was a great opportunity to get an aftermarket muffler. I've been asking alot of people what size to get it and I've been getting really different answers. I haven't done anything under the hood of the car so I'm not looking for a large muffler but I want to get a muffler that won't look weird if its angled. I figured a small muffler like a 2" one would look weird if it was angled but I heard that larger than 2.5" would be bad for the car power wise AND gas wise if there were no mods on the car. Help please+ thank you.

Are you sure when they told you about 2.5" being bad for the car if it has no mods, that they weren't referring to the size of the piping? I haven't heard of a bigger muffler tip affecting performance, but I have heard that 2.5" or biger exhaust without a turbo or something like that can decrease performance. Anyway, I recommend an Apex-i WS2 universal muffler. It has a fairly small tip for aftermarket exhaust, and looks good. The sound is great but not too loud. Although, if you have the cash, i recommend just buying a full cat-back exhaust; your exhaust piping is pretty old and might need to be replaced soon. Plus, if you buy a cat-back, it's bolt on. With a universal muffler you'll have to pay someone to weld it on for you... unless of course you or a friend of yours can weld.

I was wondering as I was looking for a muffler online. All the mufflers that I find say they 4" outlet. I know thats the length of the tip but is that "also" the length of the diameter of the tips? Because I found a muffler that say its 4" outlet but is definite that the diameter is NOT 4 inches. Hope someone answers. Thank you.

the 4" is referring only to the diameter of the muffler tip's outlet.

you're not looking for a coffee can muffler, are you?

This is the Apex-i WS2. The tip is a little under 4", but it doesn't really seem that big at all. It is one of the smallest aftermarket exhaust tip sizes for a Civic available.
