i was at this shop and the guy went to get his intake removed and the stock one put back in, and he said the cops told him he had to.
Another guy said that its not possible to pass a smog test with one on, is this true??
I'm in california btw.

 

yeah california is really strict, you better familiarize yourself with the laws before you modify anything. Basically parts have to be CARB approved, ebay junk is not.

 

if you get an AEM or injen (known brands) then you will be fine but ebay junk wont do you any justice.

 

ya for that CARB sticker that preaty much means BIG DOLLAR cost......
if the CARB sticker doesnt come with it... than its illegal in cali
cali SUCKS for mods..... if you upgrade anything... KEEP THE STOCK PARTS

I have an injen short ram on my civic, so I guess I should be okay for the smog test...
but not okay if a cop pulls me over and checks?? I don't see any carb sticker?

 

Intakes without CARB stickers are illegal in cali. You shouldn't even pass smog with one.

 

dito... without that sticker they can bust ya... tho im not sure HOW they ticket or warning you for the new parts... BUT if its just a fix it ticket or that time of year for SMOG test then i would just put the stock parts back on.... get checked or smoged drive home and swap back on...LOL

 

okay i checked, Injen has a sticker that says C.A.R.B. right on it, so I'm fine in the smog department I hope.

but is having an air intake illegal in the first place whether or not it passes smog or not?
perhaps that guy who was telling me the cops told him to take it off had a no name uncarbed one and the cop gave him a ticket because it lacked one?

 

yep.... no carb sticker means illegal... probably just a ebay intake.lol

 

so if a cop ever pulls me over, and sees that i have an intake with the CARB sticker, is he still gonna give me a ticket?? I also plan to get a quiet aftermarket exhaust and remove my front license plate (ya.. i know im just asking for it)
