Default intake replace?

im just curious if its worth replacing your intake manifold with a aftermaket? will the air flow be betta? The reason im asking is cause i found a BBK manifold and throttle body for 289.95$.

Full exhaust would be better for you... or a new cam for that price. It all depends where you are in your modding. If your tottaly stock and all you have is a CAI then I would go for exhaust.

Berz out.

i have read in several sources that a cam isnt a good idea unless you have a lot of moding done to your car, is that true? I have even seen on the speed channel they installed a cam in a stock RSX type S and they said they saw a loss in performance, yet again i dont know much about cam work so im not sure if thats all true so put some light on the subject. Ya exhaust is my next step, just trying to find a good deal on one right now.

your bolt on mods are only as good as internals. So if u do a cam u need to do evrything else. Like intake/exhaust and fuel/ignition.

I disagree with bezerker. Only because an aftermarket intake will increase throttle response, which is huge in hondas. An intake, coupled with an exhaust like berz mentioned will open up the car's lungs nicely. You'll notice it on the highway when you dont have to downshift going up hills anymore

ALSO, you dont have to spend that much money on an intake. What kind of car do you have.?

Depends on what car you have. Some intake mannys are more restrictive than others. But generally money is better spent elsewhere when you're just starting out.

I have a 99 civic Ex so that is the D16Y8 motor, would that be a good investment for my motor? or would it be more restrictive? I do plan on getting exhaust but i found a good deal on this bbk intake manifold and throttle body. Does BBK have a good rep with any of you guys and gal's?

If it's a time sensitive deal and you dont' think you will be able find another at that price when you are ready for one, get it. It will give you some gains but not as much as when you get all of the other stuff these guys are talking about. Just becasue most people get an intake manifold like 7th down their list of mods doesn't mean you have to. You are gonna want one in the future anyway so....

I don't know about the BBK, but Skunk2 claims 7-9Hp gains with just the IM.

I'm really not a pro on d-series IM's, but the Y8 is probably best of the stockers. That or the Z6. Skunk2 is probably seeing those gains on a Y7, or one of the D15s.

Personally, I'd run the Y8 IM until I was ready to buy an Edelbrock. Although I think I read somewhere Full Race is going to produce an IM for the d-series. If so, that would probably be the one to get.
