Default K&N FIP Kit vs. CAI

I'm new to all this performance talk but what's the main difference between the K&N FIP kits and CAI?

I know the FIP kit replaces the airbox but don't you ALSO take the airbox out if you're adding the CAI?

I read the CAI vs. Ram Air thread but was still wondering about this FIP Kit. Is it basically jsut a glorified CAI?

doesn't look to me like you take out anything but the filter box. that means you don'y bypass all of the resonators, and so i dunno if you would get that nice CAI sound. I could be wrong tho thats just from takin a look at that pic.

you dont remove the resonators, but you do bypass them. its not a glorified CAI. its a glorified SRI. though it does have that baffle, so its probably one of the better SRIs out there. and its hard to beat K&N.

OK, i see it now. I just looked at the installation instructions, and you connect it directly to the TB. I was thinkin maybe you just took off the stock filter box and stuck it on the end of all the tubing or something like that. But yea, glorified ram air pretty much hits the nail on the head.

Thanks XCM & Icons,
K&N has a ton of stuff and it's hard to decide which one to get. Luckily I don't have the money right now, just trying to set aside some for the next few months to get a CAI/SRI or this K&N gizmo.

According to the AEM website they don't make a CAI for an 03' Civic.

But man, the V2 is expensive. So is the K&N FIP Kit though. The AEM website didn't have photos of the V2. I' m going to see if I can find pics anywhere.

According to andys autosport, they place the filter outside the engine compartment. Which begs the question: How'd they do that?

some go through the fenderwell, and the v2 goes down around the front of the tranny.

which is what makes it a cold air intake. it sucks in cold air (compared to the air inside the engine compartment) from outside the engine compartment
