Default Magnaflow question

Im looking at the magnaflow universal mufflers and have a question about the sizes. I have a 98 LX and im not sure which one I need, there is the 14x5x5, 14x6x6, 14x5x8, and 14x7x7. Whats the difference?

if you must be getting just a muffler, then i think its the overall size of the muffler. i suggest getting the biggest one possible.

14x8x5 = 14 inches in total length, 5 inches is the widest part, and 8 inches is the length of the thickest part on the muffler. i dont know how else to explain it. i suggest that size. it doesnt look rediculous, and i had one on my old civic. sounded good.

Thanks for the info. I figured out the size thing but was mainly wondering about the different sounds for the different sizes. Is bigger deeper or what? whats the difference between the round and oval mufflers?

bigger is usually deeper yes. also, there's no difference in performance between round and oval. it's just personal opinion

So would a 5x8 oval sound as deep as a 6 inch round? I like the way the oval looks better, the 6 inch round looks huge on a lot of cars. But I want a deeper tone. I hate civics riding around sounding weedeater.

The longer and bigger the muffler the quieter it does get. It has a lot more surface area for the muffling to take place.
I woul go with the biggest you can get within spacial reasoning for your car. A big muffler will look pretty stupid underneath a tiny car, so it's good to find that certain balance.

I think I might just end up going with a Megan N1 muffler. They are 5.5 round and my friends sounds good and doesnt look rediculous on a 98. The only thing Im really worried about is it being too low to the ground. Im about to order a lip kit, tein s techs, and tokico hp's. But I have 17s so that kinda put my car up a little even though its about to be lowered an inch and a half.
