If you want your exhaust to sound good, don't get a muffler. Almost all mufflers will just make your car sound like crap with the possible exception of a nice twin loop one.

Your best option is hitting the back button on your browser, scrolling up, and reading the exhaust FAQ

Try an HKS Universal Muffler. it has a great sound. You should go to any muffler shop and get a custom straight through piping, which should cost you about 60 bucks. the muffler is under 300 dollars. but this is a guaranteed to give you one of the best sounds. this, however does absolutely nothing as far as power. it just gives you a very deep sound.

Sorry, I should have put an asterisk on the mufflers sound like crap thing. It really is true that you get that you pay for. Usually though, people who say they want to get a new muffler don't spend upwards of $150, and they usually end up getting an N1 style muffler that sounds very very raspy. If you do end up spending a decent amount on a muffler it CAN sound good, but it still won't get you any noticeable power gains (unless you do some work on the rest of the exhaust)...

I have a Tanabe universal muffler hooked up on stock header cat and piping. and I think it sounds great. Its nothing crazy loud . I paid about 150 for the muffler and getting it welded on. its got a nice deep sound and its good for me until I can afford a full exhaust which I won't get till I geta new engine...if that ever happens

i've got a no name muffler, i didn't want any "power" gains because a y7 only does so much. so there's no point in spending 100's on a cat back when i would also have to mod the rest of my exhaust because of my dx system. so i didn't want to pay 500 bucks or so for a good quality system to only get a few measly horsepower. and my exhaust has ZERO rasp, plus, most catbacks have quiet a bit of rasp in them, mufflers tend to have less considering you buy the correctly sized unit.
