Default Sputter, Sputter

Right around Xmas, my engine blew up on me, and I had to have it swapped.I stuck with a standard D16Y8 VTEC (which is what the stock motor was; 2000 EX). Aside from it running ok otherwise, I've noticed that the exhaust sounds like its sputtering - esp when idling when in 'park'. Its not outright backfiring, but it kind of sounds like it's coughing a bit. It never did it before with the other motor, but I know its not right. I don't know if it's something with the crutch motor or what. I've heard it could be the timing, need a new O2 sensor, bad intake manifold gasket, bad EGR valve or an exhaust leak. Which is the most likely? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

naw its not realy that hard. Use this DIY: https://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_228112/tm.htm

most of the guys on herethat know what they're talking about recommend just the OEM NGK spark plugs and wires, no platinum or iridiums.

good luck

is it throwing any check engine lights? if it isn't and you don't know when the last motor had a tune up it might be a good time to do it. and i would check the air filter to

Check engine light has been on for a few years - even with the original motor. Had a tech guy at Toyota look at it (borthers friends' dad) when it first cam on and they said it could be a pinhole leak in one of the fuel lines (??) - something that would take forever to find and not something to worry about. Diagnostic test showed it was throwing the 'need a new gas cap' code and replaced that. Then replaced the Evap Canister on the old motor. The light still didnt come off. Whne I disconnect the battery to get e-checked, it ends up coming back onn 100 miles later. The sputtering just started with the swapped motor tho. Check engine light came back.

hmmm you might want to take it to a autozone or advance and have them scan it and see if it has a new code
