So i have a 95 and just got my dc 4-2-1 in. I called midas to see if they could install it and he said no because the cat would have to be removed. Why would the cat have to be removed if my cat is further under the chasis somewhere? Could someone explain how that works.

You have a DX. The cat is actually IN the stock header. You will need to get an aftermarket cat to be welded into the test pipe of you exhaust. You will also need an o2 simulator.

What????
The cat is AFTER the header, underneath the car. The O2 sensor fits in where the 4 pipes converge.

edit..forgot to say F__k midas! even the ones out here try to screw ya. Shouldn't be much $$ if you find a muffler shop, but you could have the fun and do it yourself.
#1 plan on a new oxygen sensor..they always get stuck in the old header.
#2 go to Kragen or what ever auto parts store and buy the exhaust manifold gasket
#3 when the old header comes off there is a graphite impregnated cone at the back end(before the catalytic) ease that sucker off and reuse on the new header unless they supply you the parts.
#4 use anti seize on all the bolts/nuts you remove so next time it will be easier.
#5 PRAY that you don't snap an exhaust stud

Yea, I have a 95 DX Hatch, and my cat is seperate from the exhaust manifold. When I installed my header, all I had to do was lengthen the wires for the O2 sensor, everything else was a simple bolt-on installation. All in all its fairly easy. You should give it a try and do it yourself

My header was from Edlebrock, it came with all new gaskets, and hardware for the HEADER. I had to reuse the bolts/nuts that connect the cat to the "A" pipe (these are the ones with the springs on them) and the nuts that secured the old manifold to the engine block (I think it was 8 or so), Edlebrock did supply new "crushwashers" to be used with the nuts though.

As for the O2 sensor, I got mine from Autozone, made by Bosch, and it is the "O.E." style (original equipment)

Here's a link to a quick diy I wrote a little while back when I did my exhaust on my 95 DX Hatch. (see post #4) I wrote it out to help someone, so maybe it will help you too.

And its not that hard, so have fun!
