Are 17s too big

Okay I have a few questions on this too. I have 17's on my car right now, and it is lowered with coilovers, I'm not sure how much the drop is, it was just dropped enough to eliminate the wheel gap, there's no tucking or anything like that. I have 205/40/17 on my car, when I make a U turn (steering turned all the way) the right front tire rubs the wheel well. I reached my hand up under there with a lot of struggle and found that the rubbery plastic shield in the wheel well is kinda hanging down, I could actually push the thing up a few inches before it hit the wheel well. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Also, I like the 17's I have, they don't look terribly big, and they seem to ride alright, though they do jolt around more when you hit even the slightest bump. Now that I look at it, I kinda want 16's, though the 17's do look really really nice. Of course, I'm only talking about if you're driving on a road that has major problems and countersunk street drains all over the place. Other than that, the car glides and corners like a beast! I don't have money to change the wheels again, but my friend who has the same coilovers is changing from 17's down to either 16 inch Rota's or putting on some LS webs. I'll see how it goes.

this is the way i think of it as... the bigger the rim the more you decrese your torque value... now depending on what your building your car for(racing, autocross, show) if i were racing i would go with 16's cause there jus perfect and the handling is good also, autocross i would stay with 16's again, and show i would go with 17's.. welp thats jus my input

i had 215s on 17" wheels and it rubbed a little before i lowered it, bent the rear fenders out. and then i lowered it w s-techs. corrected the rear camber, put my 17s on it, and i couldnt take off without the rear rubbing. now i have SI 15" wheels with 195s.

Why would the torque change when your rim gets bigger? The total size of the wheel/tire wouldnt change, and i would think the overall weight would go down? and how low can you drop a car before you have to adjust the cambers? How much are a camber kit?
