97 Civic EX Tape Player
Hey all, new guy here. I have a 97 EX and I have an unusual question: can I easily ADD a factory tape player into the cubby hole by the shift ****? I know this is where it goes, I just want to ensure that wiring it into the stock radio will be easy and won't interfere with the 6 CD changer under the passenger seat.
I only want to add it to make my Civic more complete. Strange, I know. As far as I can tell, it has every option available on the EX trim, except for the tape player, automatic transmission (which I don't want anyway), and possibly leather interior. I've seen it once in a Civic sedan, but I don't know if it was available in the coupe.
Also, is the stock Alpine CD changer normally placed under the seat? I've seen them in the trunk before too, although I don't know if they were the factory changer.
Thanks for your time all, and if you can think of any other little options that I may be missing I would love to hear about them so I can add them. I'll put up some pics of my Civic in the introduction section later tonight

On my '97, when I removed the OEM CD player (down by the shifter), it merely unplugged from the back of the factory head unit. I would imagine the tape player probably does the same unless, of course, the CD changer is plugged into that input jack.
If you have that cubby in the console, you may have to get brackets for the cassette player to mount it properly. I found that when I removed my factory CD player, the brackets also held together the cupholder and other black plastic support pieces within that area. I think there was also another bracket that mounted to the dash frame to support the rear of the CD player, but I can't remember at the moment.
Not sure about the CD changer placement, though.

When I do this I will look for a Civic in a junkyard so I can take it apart and get all the necessary pieces. And I can experiment on installation and not have to worry about breaking anything
