amber inserts...aka: a pain in my arse.
thx, ngoti8tor...i didn't even think about the cardboard.
i'm kinda cautious of heat guns. they heat up pretty fast, and i can already see myself burning a hole in the side of my lamp. [8D]
and thx to everyone for all your ideas!! there's no such thing as too much input.

Yes this does work, I once had to do it to switch out the halos in my assemblies. However, heed their warnings about the length of time you do it for. There is some kind of protective layer over my headlight assemblies that began to melt away when I did mine and I only had them in there for approximately 5 minutes. So be very careful...
If you have to break adhesive your doing it wrong!! no head lights on civics have adhesive. Unless they are not the right ones for another owner! the saying is everything on a honda can be taking apart with a wrench!. dont use a heat gun that can kill your pain job. there is three screws on most amber inserts! and one bold hooking to the actual body! Before you go doing this again. I would suggest getting an electrical guide it shows in detail the light system how to unhook everything that needs electricty! Good Luck. and oh hey may say he knows something but remember women know all (well not the obvious dumb ones we all know them lol)

I just took my passenger headlight out today to seal it up with silicone. I took them apart and painted all the chrome black except the chrome around the bulb. It turned out good but my right light started getting a light coat of moisture in it. The headlight usually burns it off but it's just irritating. I put the amber lenses back in. The look smoked now. I bought a heat gun to get them apart and put them in the oven @ 350 degrees for about 2 mins. or so. Then used the heat gun. Hair dryer would have taken forever. You can do it but have alot of patience. Good luck. P.S. make sure you take the cooking sheet out of the oven when working on light of you'll melt some of the plastic when you put it back on the shett to put back in oven.
The headlights do have adhesive holding them together from the factory. Take the bumper of and four bolts hold them on. Unplug the main headlight plug and your done. Not screws hold it togheter.

I've done this, and it works like a charm. This link can also be found in the General Tech Help sticky in the General Tech Help forum.
Edit: Important Tip: Make sure you don't leave the cookie sheet in the oven while working on the headlights. It will melt the plastic of the headlights if you put them on it!

welp, the amber inserts are long gone. took a while, but i think the results are worth it. and yes, there is adhesive on headlights. i think all headlights have adhesive. keeps moisture out to prevent condensation and to keep the bulbs from fizzling out. my bf helped me with the large majority of this project, and we were able to do it all without the use of an oven or a heat gun. we used a flathead screwdriver, lots of time, and lots of gentle prying, and were able to get the lense to separate. the amber inserts popped off and we just stuck both pieces of the light back together and put the clips back on. a relatively simple project! i'll put some pics up so everyone can see.
