I am also curious about this, my car is black and im wanting to paint it like a glossy grey, like the 7th gen grey but darker. But I've heard that when painting, you want to stick to a color near to what your original is, for some reason correct me if I am wrong.

well... hahah, ok this car i got, its a good platform. ek with type r headlights, front and rear lip, wing and side mirrors. it was origianly red. then i think it was stolen and painted blue, badly. then i think it was stolen again, and painted over again, badly aswell. so right now i bought it with garbage white house paint and all the jams are red aswell as the underhood. but the engine was plainted flat black after a gsr swap was performed. so it might need a little work. but as for sticking close to a similar color... if your able to spend the money you can go how ever you want i would think.
Yeah it all depends on where you want to go...and what kind of prep work is involved...if you are having the jambs and everything painted you can go whatever folor you like. The only reason you might want to match the stock color is if you want to leave the jambs and have it match. Once its primed though there is no limit other than your budget when it comes to the paintjob. $1500-2000 might be a bit low for a complete paint job....I would guess closer to $3k for everything with a solid color. Materials alone are going to be around $6-800 if decent quality stuff is used. Thats what it would be around here any way. I think materials are going to run me around $600ish and thats at cost of the paint shop they are coming from. (hooray for having inside connections).
I can tell you that my dad's friend wont paint a whole car for less than $4k...mostly because there is so much prep work involved...the prep is what makes me put off painting mine...I fricken hate sanding.[:'(]
eh i dont know then because i did all the prep myself and then my father in law painted it and materials were less than 500 bucks. im not sure what the quote is from a paint shop, im not up to date with them.
