Default Does any one know anything about LEDs?

Hi,
I am trying to put on some LED's in my cupholder. I wired it and connected to a switch, which is connected to my "acc cigar" fuse. I turned it on and all the bulbs blew.. Is it because there is too much power going to the LEDs? because I bought the regular LED bulb with two metal wires coming out of it (NOT the prewired one). Will the pre wired ones allow me to hook it up like how I did it??? Anyone with any type of clue, please reply. It will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

TIM

u need to put a 12 v resistor in the positive wire before it gets to the bulb, then i should be fine.

put the resistor between the switch and bulb, or between the switch and power source, makes no difference.

im really not sure that they will come built in, they may do, you should ask wherever you are buying them from as places may differ. best bet is to buy a set of resistors and get your own stand alone led's and some wire and do it yourself. Thats what i did for mine.

Thanks for all the input guys. Really helped me out.. Yea i went ahead and purchased a few from oznium. It said "These incredible lights feature a resistor soldered to the base of the unit, which is then secured with 3 layers of heat shrink" So i guess these come built in..Ima just go with these. Thanks again guys.

One more question guys. Is it possible to melt your fuse metal prongs that hold your fuse in place if I connected LEDs without any resistors and blew the LEDs. I dont know how it happened but one of my fuses, the prongs came out(i think melted off). Im trying to figure out how it happened, if it was from me connecting the non resistored LEDs or if thas not a possibibilty. I mite need to change out my whole fuse box now

Melt? That does not sound right at all. I have connected LEDs without the resister or fuse, it just blows the LED. If you have fuses melting, it might be somthing else.

Prewired from oznium have the correct resistors.

Addiction did a tiny sub DIY in this thread, its like part three.
