Exterior trim
My car is a 00 Civic 2 door. The plastic exterior trim near the bottom of the glass, and top of the door is very rough feeling and needs replacement. Armor All and similar products will not fix this.
Where can I get the straight piece of exterior trim that fits just behind the door mirror extending back towards the door handle?
How is this trim removed and replaced? Thanks

isn't that piece metal? i know it was on the EGs and i think the EKs
if i'm talking about the right piece at least, you can remove them and sand them down and repaint them. if they are actually plastic, you could just sand them smooth i guess

that's what happened on my on EG. the black peeled off and i left it bare metal, and it started to rust. so i taped everything off and repainted them
The trim on my 00 is plastic. It is very rough to the touch. I don't think Back to Black will fix the texture of the plastic.
Where can I buy a new piece of trim, and how does the old trim come off?

I had this same problem on my 98. You can buy a replacement for this piece at a Honda dealer for about $75 each, or fix it yourself like I did for under $10. It takes a little time and effort, but it beats paying $125 for such a minor detail. Here is what I did to make it look as good as new:
1. Remove the black rectangular plastic piece that runs vertical along the door jamb adjacent to the window. This piece faces outward and is held in place by 3 easily visible screws on the inside of the opened door.
2. The window should be down all the way. Carefully slide out the piece of trim that is fading. (I believe it is actually aluminum with a rubberized coating.) This is difficult to do, but it can be done if you are careful. Slide it towards the rear of the car and try to pop the rear end off the rail. It took me a while but I eventually figured out a way to do this...
3. Sand it down until it is smooth. (I had to sand down to bare metal in some areas.)
4. It is best to use a primer first for a long lasting paint job. Use whatever is recommended for aluminum. For the top coat, I used Dupli-Color satin black spray paint. The final product looked exactly like it would have originally.
5. Make sure the paint has dried completely and reinstall it.
I did this over a year ago and it still looks the same. You can PM me for questions since this is hard to explain without pictures, but I hope this helps.

Thanks for the write up. Any pics of the finished product? It sounds easy enough, but not sure about the part where you slide the trim backwards after removing the vertical piece.
