flat gray or primer? theres a Civic around here that has a primer paint job and it just looks like a project that never got finished. on the other hand, flat paint jobs look okay, but l love the shine and gleam
My brother's CRX is a flat black (kind of a really dark grey almost), and flip is right, it kind of looks like an unifinished project. It looks cool, but I wouldn't do it to my car, makes you look cheap lol.
Only looks unfinished if you do a poor job, rattle can it, etc... There are paints and clear coats that you can get in a flat/matte look, that will usually turn out very good if done correctly.
Example..

Yes, believe it or not, there IS a clear coat on there.

You dont want to use a primer because even a primer sealer will allow mosture through after a period of time. What they have is a product called "hot rod flats". It comes in a kit for around $100-150 I think. They have a ton of colors. And it looks like that car forty posted when you are done as far as finish. (well assuming you can paint)
