Halo Projector Headlights
I want to know what the forum thinks about about halo projector headlights. How do I make the projectors adaptable to be plugged into my cars electrical housing both the halo's and my my electrical housing are female I know one needs to be male & one needs to be female. There is one red and one black wire do they need to be attached and where should they be attached. 97 sedan
the main actual lights (the projector and blinkers) should have a harness that plugs right into your OEM harness. As for hte halos, those are strictly for show and those need to be either wired into their own switch or on with your running lights. Eitehr way the red wire goes to a 12v source and the black wire is grounded.
alright, first...
make sure you seal up the headlight housings where the clear plastic meets the housing with some silicone. (can be found at the auto parts store in a tube)
Let those dry and then install the headlights, or just go ahead and install and be careful not to touch the silicone while installing the headlights.
if you don't seal them up, they will most likely be fogged up in the morning when you go to use your car.
secondly...
they should have came with a male plug on the halos... without those, you can still do it, but instead of just plugging the harnesses together, you will have to:
1. cut each harness off (do this one wire at a time to avoid confusion!) and connect the wire from the halo's harness to its corresponding wire (the one that it would have plugged into if the harness had been a male plug).
2. Secure these connected wires together with wire nuts. Do this for all 3 sets of wires.
3. Then, squirt some dialectic grease (can be found at your auto parts store in 99 cent packettes up at the counter - if not, ask the employee) in the wire nut's opening (after you have already attached the wires together with the wire nuts). This grease keeps moisture out of the wiring.
4. Then take electrical tape and cover up the wire nut and its opening. Do this for all 3 sets of wires.
5. Repeat the above steps for the other headlight.
It'll be a little sloppier than just plug 'n play like it should have been, but i don't think you'll be switching out headlight housings much so it shouldn't be a problem.
lastly...
the red and black wires are from the halo ring. these are best wired to your parking lights/turn signals.
wire the red wire to the turn signal's red wire.
1. cut the turn signal red wire, and put both ends of the cut wire, and the red wire from your halos (3 wires total) in a wire nut. use dialectic grease for these, the same method as mentioned above. Take electrical tape again and cover it all up.
2. repeat step 1, but with the black wires. /Or, alternatively, just ground the black wire by attaching its end to a bolt on the chassis.
3. repeat steps 1 and 2, on the other headlight.
