Is there anything (laws/regulations) i should know about before i buy new headlights or taillights? I'm in NY and i want to get black halo project lights (and some xenon bulbs) but do i have to worry about anything like colors or reflectors?

 

You should check with your local police station. Im in california and i use the same black projector's with xenon bulbs ;-)

Usually D.O.T standards say that if it didnt come with the car when you bought it, it is illegal. But halos and HIDs are something that they REALLLY REALLY have to want to nail you for... even then I doubt they will do anything... I have halos and 6k HIDs and I drive behind police cars and NOTHING happens.

 

Most likely they can't pull you over for the lights themselves but if they pull you over for DUI or speeding or ran a red light,and happen to notice your lights they can cite you for them.

some states require a amber turn signal. thats all i have heard.

 

Does the actual plastic on the headlight have to be that amber color or can it be clear and have an amber light?

 

i think its just a amber bulb. thats all i have. i have a clear reflector with a amber bulb.

 

DOT approved, and i think you need to have some red or orange on your tails. I dont know anything about the headlighst thoguh, just as long as they arent tinted over where the bulbs shine, thats just stupid anyway.

 

I got pulled over for having "White" tail light turn signals. Paid 20 bucks.
Cop said they had to be "Red" or "Orange" turn signals.
