Default Lip Kit Painting

Hi,

Well I am ordering a few new lip pieces and I want to give painting them a shot. I will be using PPG sealer/paint/clear. I have an HVLP spray gun with adequate compressor and quite a bit of spray finishing knowledge (I spray finish all kinds of furniture). However I have never painted anything automotive related but would really like to learn. I am not really sure whats required as far as sanding after sealer, paint, clear etc? Any tips/info would be great.

Thanks
Jeff

After Primer,Sealer I do a like 400 grit or more finish then I clean with prep solvant. You just want to scuff so the paint will stick.

here you go...in 2 weeks im getting my lip kit painted professinally by a friend, these steps are perfect except i dont agree with #1.. you need to scuff that parts of a little to make the primer stick to it..primer is not going to stick to a 100% smooth serface..as long as you dont go down into it to much, just a little ruff up

As far as after the clear...if it lays down smooth you shouldn't have to do anything...If you do get some orange peel you can wetsand it with 1500 grit paper but it will be more difficult because of the shape and size of the lip. The lip is so low on the car that most would not bother wetsanding unless there is a big difference in texture between the lip and the paint on the car. As far as pre-painting I agree with the above posts.

Do you have a high speed polisher for buffing? It can be done by hand but will take a lot of time.

Hi,

This will be done either in a shop or outside but not in a booth. I do most of my furniture finish outside so I am familiar with a light sanding to remove contaminates (since im not in a booth). I don't have a high speed polisher other then an orbit but I dont think thats what you mean. Polishing/buffing is really what I don't understand. Can you detail this a littler more?

Thanks
Jeff
