Default little scratch - touch up paint

I have a little scratch on the rear door of my 06' Civic - Fiji Blue(less than a cm). How hard would it be for me to take some touch up paint and fix it myself?

Its not hard at all. Just make sure the area is clean, no rust on it. If there is, it will just be light surface rust. Get a little piece of sandpaper and just take it off. Then just go over with your touch up paint.

I got my touch up paint from the honda dealer. Stuff matches great.

Making sure the area is clean won't be a problem, but is the sandpaper necessary. I ask that for 2 reasons; 1, the scratch is about a cm long and 1 mm across and 2; the fear of srewing it up scares the hell out of me.

The sandpaper is only needed if there is rust. If that's the case, its absolutely neccessary...otherwise the rust will only spread. If that is the case, just fold the sandpaper over something small so you have a lot of control over where it touches the car. You could even use the eraser of a pencil to wrap the paper around. That way you can see exactly what you doing and you won't be damaging paint that doesn't need touchup.

The scratch happened yesterday, so there's no rust.

I know the touch up paint will only cost me a few bucks, but how much do you think it would cost if I got the dealership to do it?.

Honestly, I'm not sure...I actually don't even know if the dealer would want to paint it for you. You'd be better off getting the paint from the dealer and having a local paint shop do it for you. Like I said I have no experience, but I would guess somewhere between 50-100...expensive, but it'll look perfect. (If you choose this route, you may not need to buy the paint...contact a shop first). Hopefully this helps some, but I'm sure someone else could better answer the question as to cost, etc...

You dont want the dealership to do it, they will just be doing the exact same thing you do.

If the area has no rust, then as long as theres no dirt on the scratch, go and put some touch up paint on it. You can get touch up paint at the dealer, comes in little nail polish container.

I touch up little stone chips all the time on my car, I just use the little brush it comes with, put a little amount of paint on the end and plop it on. Drys in like2 minutes. Get it coverd up right away.

Yeah, it's tough to get touch up paint that really matches well. I know I had got some for my car and you can clearly see a difference when you look at it up close.
