im thinking about doing that too. my car is a custom paint. sometimes it looks red orange and other times its more red. so would i be better off to paint it black or should i try to get a matching red?

For the record they make an engine paint that is 'red-orange'. Its called Chevrolet Red-Orange, I think....

It took me about 2 hours.

15 minutes to get the cover off (my rubber seals were glued onto there tight, so it took awhile to pry them off so I could remove the screws)
15 mintues to sand
45 mintues to paint. 3 coats of Blacks, 5 mintues to re-sand. 2 coats of clear.
An hour to dry, 2 mintues to reassemble.

I bought a sanding-block and it worked out pretty nicely. In hindsight I should have trimed the paper more closely, I got a little 'overrub' and took some black off around the lettering. Maybe one day I'll find another one and try it again.

I just did this today... I didn't listen about the sand paper though. I used a very fine metal file, I wouldn't have done it differently, it makes it really hard to mess up.

Oh yeah, and in regards to painting the wipers... that was definately something on my list.

A few quick questions:

How do they come off?
Can I use the engine paint for that too, or should I go and get something else?

1. I used a 14mm wrench, open the hood, it makes it easier

2. your wipers don't need to be that heat resistant I used rustoleum primer and flat black paint, both in spray form.
