I hear stuff all the time about OEM and JDM. I have no idea what they mean or stand for. Did i miss something somewhere. IF someone could clear all that up for me that be great

 

OEM stands for -Original Equipment Manufacturer ..and that just means the stock stuff that comes on your car from the factory

JDM stands for -Japanese Domestic Market..and thats parts from japan but there is alot of knock offs too like on e-bay

 

I guess JDM could be considered OEM... in Japan. The JDM counterpart is USDM. United States Domestic Market.

See, the Japanese keep all of the good stuff for themselves. Mostly becasue they dont' have to deal with our emissions laws and bureaucracy, or maybe they are just selfish and giggle at our poorly flowing heads and restrictive exhaust manifolds and the like. It must be like Disneyland for Civic owners over there. You know how you can go to Tijuana and get Tequila and blankets and crap really cheap? Well, Japan is like that, except it's Mugen.

 

jdm isnt necessarily OEM. a lot of JDM stuff is OEm, but a lot comes from Japanese manufacturers, like C-West, Mugen, Spoon, and Top Fuel, which are not at all OEM.

 

yeah i too am in the process of learning about jdm and oem and what not. im a newbie what can i say.

 

Though less commonly used, EDM is European Domestic Market.

i've also heard of DTM and DSM? do they exist?
