i think it would be fine. the shield doesnt get near as hot as a header but chrome headers hold up ok. also, stock harleys have pretty similare heat shelids on their stock exhausts that only discolor due to weather not from heat. my dad has one and i see the mantenence he puts into it, but it would probobly be cheaper to just buy a header

there is paint that will stay on. its engine paint and its made for up to 1200 degrees i painted the exhaust side of my turbo with it and it stayed on.

Good points all... my original thought was that I was painting parts anyway...

Just trying to make my bay look nicer so Sniper will stop making fun of me....

I know this is an old thread...but I didnt see that anyone said to bake the paint on. With that heat paint on your supposed to spray it on and bake it for however long it says on the can. we did that to the headers on my buddy's blazer and they look great after a few months... Just an idea to throw out there.

only reason i didnt say anything about baking it on was cause he didnt seem to set on using header paint. if it was about using header paint i would have brought it up, but its a good point for anyone else reading this that might want to do it
