Procedure: Installing a pillar pod/tach/clock
Well, I finally finished the entire install of the dual - gauge pillar pod in my 1997 Civic CX. The wiring part took the longest, but only because I did alot of poking and probing. The setup looks and works great - almost like it belongs there. The green light cover in the tach makes the brightness a bit less than I'm used to, so I may remove the green cover and see what it looks like without it.
Since everything is still fresh in my mind, I thought I'd write a detailed procedure for those of you who may want to do the same thing. I chose a tach and clock, but the same procedure can be used if you want to install any other types of gauges.

Thanks! The pillar pods are offered in gray (like mine) and black. The only difference between the color of the pod and the color of my interior is that pod color is more glossy. The fit is not quite perfect, but close enough so that most people wouldn't notice without looking closely.

I spent about $230 altogether, since the only tool I had to buy was the Electro-tek circuit tester (less than $6). The stereo has a clock, but it is displayed only when the stereo is off - kinda weird. That's why I installed a clock in the pod. The nice thing is that I can easily swap out the gauges for different ones, if I ever need to. For instance, if I ever swap out the instrument cluster for an inexpensive EX version, I can always pop in a vacuum, oil pressure, or other gauge into the pod.
The advantages and disadvantages listed are my opinions, of course. Some Civic owners don't like pillar pods, but the interesting thing is that there is very little install info online for those who do like them.
