I live in new york, and the legal limit is 70%
and i've been reading about people having 20%-30% and everything.
but which is darker, is the nigher the % the lighter the tint is on the window?
or is it the opposite?

 

5% is the darkest you can go which would be limo tint.


100% is no tint


the number is the ammount of light it lets in.

 

I've also seen 2.5 somewhere too. Or if you want it darker you can double layer it but that's pretty tricky.

 

I have a friend from New York, he says that they are very strict on there policy of window tinting. If I were you I wouldnt go too dark.

 

what would be a decent tint to put on my civic.
i had tint on my last car from the pervious owner and she said it was "1 shade illegeal" and that was a pretty decent tint that i liked. but i dont know the exact % that is.

 

i have 15% on my car, and thats a little under the legal limit

 

Yeah the percent indicates the percent of light allowed to pass through. So with 35% tint, 65% of light is blocked, even though really, 35% tint is hardly that dark. 20% is more noticable and is the lowest I would probably go. Any lower just makes it hard to see at night.

 

so 20% is illegeal but tint enojugh to the point where it's really noticible?

 

yeah i went 35% up front and 20% on the back windows. the 20% looks real nice but like someone said earlier i would have a hard time seeing out anything darker at night
