Default Rust Hole

Hey all, i've searched on the forums to see if anyone have asked this question before, but didn't come up with an answer, well at least to what i've seen. Anyways I live in massachusetts and rust here is a bitch. I picked up a civic for 300 dollars from a nieghbor that lived next to my grandmother. She said ti was going to cost thousands of dollars to get the car to pass inspection, but all it really needed was breaks and a new muffler. Its a very decent running car and only little things wrong with it here and there, that I think I could be able to fix seeing im a student at a tech highschool for automotive.

Anyways, I have some rust holes on the rear wheel welds of my car. They arent too big but they are horrible to look at when you look at the car. I wanted to know how I can fix this. I would like to do it myself but if it requires anything too dramatic, im just going to leave it until I can get the money to get a professional to do it, or bring it into the auto body shop at my school. Here are some photos:

Well, what you really need to do it cut out the rusted spot and weld in new metal. The holes are pretty big, so you can do much more. For a temp, you can rent a sandblaster and sandblast thos parts to take off the rust and then get some color match and paint it so it doesnt rust more.

Good luck, I paid a 800 to get both of my rear wheel wells redone with sheet metal. I got it done 2.5 years ago. One side is rust-free but the other is starting to bubble. The guy said that he doesn't guarantee rust repair, which he neglected to say when he gladly fixed it.

Just cut and weld. Its not that hard to do if you have a welder, and some basic metal shaping tools.

I dont have any welding tools or anything of the sort. I figured I wouldnt be able to do anything about it without using those. I was told that I was going to have to weld in a new piece of metal but I wanted to see if anyone knew a way around it. Thanks for the input guys!

It's not the best way to do it butthis will work. Rent/borrow/buy a sandblaster and get rid of all the rust in those spots. Then take a grinder and take all the paint off in the gerneratll area of the rust. Say 3" all aorund it. Then you can go to any parts house and get some fiberglass cloth and resin. You'll have to aplly 3 or 4 sheets of fiberglass cloth. Just follow the instructions on the back of the can of resin. Then you can take some Bondo and spread over the fiberglass job after it's dry. sand the Bondo and spray w/ some flat red primer.

Yours looks exactly like mine[:@] People tell me that it's very common for this to happen to our models. I still haven't corrected this problem. I just took some blackout tape that I bought for 3$ and put some over so I wouldn't have to look at it. Looks ok for now. You can't really even tell unless your looking for it. Let us know what you do, since this topic isn't popular here.

Seems all civics in the northern east have this problem. It's the F***N salt.[:'(]
